Armed police were deployed to a Leeds hospital after a man arrived with injuries believed to have been caused by a firearm.
Emergency services were called to Leeds General Infirmary after hospital staff alerted police that a man in his late twenties had arrived with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. Officers were called shortly after 5.30pm and quickly established a large police presence around the hospital as investigations began.
The injured man, aged 29, was admitted for medical treatment and remains in hospital in a stable condition. Police confirmed that the incident did not occur at the hospital itself and that detectives are working to determine where the firearm discharge took place.
Initial enquiries led to the arrest of two men aged 27 and 44 on suspicion of causing serious injury with intent. Officers also recovered the vehicle used to transport the injured man to the hospital as part of the investigation.
In a later update, police confirmed that further arrests had been made during a planned operation involving officers from West Yorkshire Police and Greater Manchester Police. Two men aged 24 and 47 were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and taken into custody for questioning.
Authorities said two other individuals previously arrested in connection with the case have since been released with no further action taken against them.
The large police presence at the hospital drew attention from members of the public, with social media footage showing armed officers and police vehicles outside the building while enquiries were carried out.
Detectives from the homicide and major enquiry team are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
