Brighton Back Minteh to Fulfil Liverpool Dream

Yankuba Minteh Could Still Join Liverpool

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler believes Yankuba Minteh could eventually realise his ambition of joining Liverpool after Brighton rejected two bids for the winger during the transfer window.

Liverpool reportedly offered £50m before increasing their proposal to £60m, but Brighton turned down both bids. The Seagulls were understood to value the 22-year-old Gambia international at closer to £70m.

Minteh, who primarily operates on the right wing, joined Brighton from Newcastle for £30m in 2024. He has since made 73 appearances for the club, scoring 10 goals and providing nine assists.

Despite the failed transfer, Hurzeler insists Minteh remains fully committed to Brighton and believes another opportunity could emerge if the winger continues to perform.

“If the whole team is successful and the individual shines then Yankuba will get a lot of attention again and he can then maybe fulfil his dream in the next transfer window,” Hurzeler said.

The Brighton manager also stressed that Minteh needs to remain focused on the club and contribute to its success.

Hurzeler said the winger is “definitely” committed to Brighton, pointing to his connection with the club after two years as part of the squad.

He added that individual players benefit when Brighton performs well collectively, arguing that success as a team naturally brings greater attention to the club’s standout performers.

Brighton Complete Chema Andres Deal Yankuba Minteh

Although Minteh remained at Brighton, the club still generated substantial income from player sales during the transfer window.

Carlos Baleba completed a £70m move to Manchester United, providing Brighton with significant funds to strengthen the squad.

The club used part of that money to sign Spanish defensive midfielder Chema Andres from Stuttgart on deadline day in a deal worth £15.5m.

The 21-year-old made 41 appearances for Stuttgart last season after joining the German club from Real Madrid in 2025.

Andres developed through Real Madrid’s youth system and made his La Liga debut in January 2025 before moving to Stuttgart, where he helped the club qualify for the Champions League.

Hurzeler Understands ‘Baby Rodri’ Comparison Yankuba Minteh

Andres has been compared with Manchester City and Spain midfielder Rodri, earning the nickname “baby Rodri”.

Hurzeler said he understands why the comparison has emerged, particularly because of the young midfielder’s attitude and desire to improve.

“He has this motivation of wanting to improve every day,” Hurzeler said, describing Andres as highly ambitious from his first day at the club.

However, the Brighton boss cautioned against placing too much pressure on the youngster, stressing that Andres still has considerable development ahead of him.

Hurzeler said reaching Rodri’s level would be a major achievement for both Brighton and football as a whole, while making clear that the young Spaniard has a long way to go.
