Fury vs Joshua: Major 11 December Cardiff Fight Confirmed

Fury vs Joshua

Fury vs Joshua has finally been confirmed, with Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua set to meet at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on 11 December. The long-awaited all-British heavyweight fight will be broadcast globally on Netflix, bringing an end to years of negotiations and uncertainty surrounding one of boxing’s most anticipated matchups.

The two former heavyweight world champions will begin their public build-up with a press conference in London on Wednesday, 30 September. Joshua, 36, responded to the announcement on Instagram by writing, “I am inspiring a generation,” while Fury, 38, had yet to comment at the time of the announcement.

Fury vs Joshua Finally Gets Cardiff Date

The fight had already been agreed contractually earlier this year, but organisers had not confirmed where or when it would take place. Wembley Stadium and Madison Square Garden in New York had been considered, before Cardiff emerged as the selected venue.

The Principality Stadium has previous experience hosting major boxing events, including Joe Calzaghe’s 2007 fight against Mikkel Kessler. That contest began at 01:00 GMT, demonstrating that major fights in the Welsh capital have previously been staged at unusual hours to accommodate international television audiences.

The Fury vs Joshua event is being promoted through a collaboration involving Saudi boxing figure Turki Alalshikh’s The Ring and UFC chief Dana White. Alalshikh described the contest as a meeting between two of the leading heavyweights of their generation and said he was pleased to make the fight happen for boxing fans.

Netflix has confirmed that the fight will stream live globally from Principality Stadium on 11 December.

Principality Stadium Boxing Plans

The precise start time for Fury vs Joshua has not yet been announced. Organisers are considering a late start because of the importance of the United States television market.

A late-night Cardiff event would not be unprecedented. Ricky Hatton’s 2005 victory over Kostya Tszyu at Manchester’s MEN Arena began at about 02:00 local time so that the American broadcaster Showtime could show the contest during Saturday evening in the United States.

Joe Calzaghe’s 2006 meeting with Jeff Lacy was also staged at a similar hour, while Calzaghe’s 2007 victory over Kessler in Cardiff was influenced by the American television schedule.

The UFC has also staged extremely late British events. Michael Bisping’s 2016 title defence against Dan Henderson in Manchester began deep into the night, while UFC 304 in Manchester in 2024 started its main card at 03:00 BST.

For the Fury vs Joshua fight, a ring walk around 01:00 or 02:00 GMT would correspond with evening viewing hours on the US east coast. Promoter Eddie Hearn has previously played down suggestions that the main event could begin as late as 03:00 GMT.

Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua Rivalry

The announcement concludes a saga that has stretched across more than a decade. Fury and Joshua have repeatedly been linked with a major British heavyweight contest, while negotiations have broken down on several occasions.

In 2020, their respective camps agreed the basis of a two-fight deal. A year later, contracts were signed for an undisputed heavyweight contest, but Deontay Wilder’s successful arbitration case resulted in Fury having to face the American for a third time.

Another attempt was made in 2022, when Joshua accepted a 60-40 split to challenge Fury. That proposed fight also failed to materialise.

Now, Fury vs Joshua will take place in Britain, with Cardiff providing the setting for the heavyweight showdown. Joshua had been pushing for the contest to be staged in the UK, and his promoter Eddie Hearn welcomed the confirmation.

Hearn also thanked British supporters for their backing during the long process of trying to make the fight happen.

Netflix Brings Fury Joshua Fight Worldwide

White’s involvement adds another major name to the promotional operation. The UFC chief said boxing fans had been waiting for more than a decade to see Fury and Joshua share a ring and highlighted their combined record of 66 wins and 52 knockouts, along with their multiple heavyweight world titles.

The Ring and White’s involvement reflects the scale of the event, while Netflix provides the global broadcast platform. The streaming service has already carried major boxing events featuring both fighters.

For British boxing supporters, the confirmation brings an end to years of speculation. Fury and Joshua have experienced world-title victories, defeats, comebacks and repeated failed negotiations during the period in which their fight was being discussed.

This time, there is a confirmed date, venue and broadcaster. On 11 December, the two British heavyweights will finally share a professional ring at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, with the event available live worldwide on Netflix.
