Inter Eye Spence and Romero for €85m Deal

An Inter Tottenham transfer link has emerged around two Spurs defenders, Djed Spence and Cristian Romero, though reports suggest both moves would be far from straightforward for the Serie A champions. Italian outlet Sportmediaset has taken a closer look at the situation, revealing the financial hurdles standing in the way of any deal materializing this window.

According to the report, Spence remains in contention to join the Nerazzurri, but as things currently stand, he would likely only arrive as a last-minute addition before the transfer window closes. Inter reportedly view Gela Doue as a more realistic and immediate target for that particular position, suggesting Spence sits further down their list of priorities for now.

Part of the complication lies in Spence’s valuation. The England international is said to command a €35 million price tag, a figure that has climbed following a strong World Cup campaign that raised his profile considerably. That price makes any straightforward move to Italy difficult unless a more favorable opportunity emerges late in the transfer window.

Despite the financial obstacles, indications point to talks having already taken place between Tottenham and Inter regarding Spence’s potential departure. During those discussions, Spurs reportedly also presented Inter with the chance to sign Romero, opening up a second avenue for negotiation between the two clubs.

Romero, however, comes with an even steeper price tag, currently valued at over €50 million. The Argentine centre-back has established himself as one of Tottenham’s most important defensive assets, and his current salary of €6.5 million per season adds another significant layer of complexity to any potential switch to Serie A.

Even with dialogue reportedly underway, sources suggest a move for Romero would be just as complicated as one for Spence, if not more so, given both his transfer fee and wage demands. Inter would need to navigate a delicate financial balancing act to accommodate either player within their current budget structure.

For now, neither deal appears close to completion, with Sportmediaset’s report framing both potential signings as possibilities that could only materialize as last-minute business toward the end of the transfer window. Inter’s priority focus for the position in question currently appears to rest with Doue rather than either Tottenham defender.

Should circumstances shift, however, whether through a change in valuation, a shift in Tottenham’s own squad planning, or fresh opportunities opening up as deadline day approaches, both Spence and Romero remain names worth watching on the Nerazzurri’s transfer radar. Serie A followers will be keeping a close eye on how the situation develops as the window edges toward its final stages.

Inter’s interest also underscores the growing appeal of Premier League defensive talent among Italy’s top clubs, with both Spence and Romero having built strong reputations in England’s top flight. Whether either transfer comes to fruition will likely depend on how much financial flexibility Inter can create elsewhere in their squad before the market closes.
