A man has shot and killed seven of his children and injured an eighth in a mass shooting in the US state of Louisiana, authorities have confirmed.
The incident took place in a residential area, where police were called after reports of gunfire. Emergency services arrived to find multiple victims at the scene, with several children pronounced dead and one taken to hospital with injuries.
Local officials described the attack as one of the most disturbing domestic incidents in recent years. The suspect, believed to be the children’s father, has been taken into custody as investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Law enforcement officers secured the area and launched an immediate investigation, with forensic teams examining the scene and gathering evidence. Authorities have not yet disclosed a possible motive, but early indications suggest the incident occurred within the family home.
Residents in the neighbourhood expressed shock and grief, with many struggling to come to terms with the scale of the tragedy. Community members gathered nearby as news of the incident spread, while local leaders called for support for those affected.
Officials said the injured child is receiving medical treatment, although details about their condition have not been released. Police have urged anyone with information to come forward as the investigation continues.
The case has once again raised concerns about gun violence in the United States, particularly incidents involving families. Experts say domestic-related shootings remain a significant issue, often leaving communities devastated.
Authorities have promised a full inquiry into the incident, with further details expected to be released as the investigation develops.
