Mumbai Indians delivered a dominant all-round performance to defeat Gujarat Titans by 99 runs in their IPL 2026 match on 20 April.
Batting first, Mumbai Indians posted a strong total of 199 for 5 in their 20 overs, with Tilak Varma leading the charge with a superb unbeaten century. Gujarat Titans, in response, collapsed under pressure and were bowled out for just 100 runs in 15.5 overs.
Tilak Varma was the standout performer with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 101 off 45 balls, hitting boundaries all around the ground and anchoring the innings brilliantly. He was well supported by Naman Dhir, who contributed 45 runs, helping Mumbai build a competitive total.
Despite early wickets, Mumbai maintained a steady run rate and accelerated in the latter stages, finishing strongly to put Gujarat under immediate pressure.
In reply, Gujarat Titans never looked settled in the chase. They lost wickets regularly and failed to build any partnerships. Washington Sundar was the top scorer with 26 runs, while Shubman Gill managed only 14.
The Mumbai bowling attack dominated from the start, with Ashwani Kumar delivering a match-winning spell, taking 4 wickets for 24 runs. Mitchell Santner also played a key role with 2 wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah and others chipped in to dismantle the batting line-up.
Gujarat were eventually bowled out for 100, handing Mumbai Indians a comprehensive 99-run victory.
Tilak Varma was named Player of the Match for his outstanding unbeaten century, which proved to be the defining performance of the game.
The result highlights Mumbai Indians’ strong comeback in the tournament, while Gujarat Titans will need to address both batting and bowling concerns after a heavy defeat.
