PSG Showed With Dogged Bayern Munich Display They Can Do the Dirty Work, Too

Paris Saint-Germain Proved They Can Fight as Well as Flourish Against Bayern Munich

Paris Saint-Germain booked their place in another UEFA Champions League final after a gritty 1-1 draw away to Bayern Munich, showing a completely different side to their game.

After last week’s chaotic nine-goal thriller, many expected another attacking spectacle. Instead, PSG delivered a disciplined and determined defensive performance to secure progression on aggregate and move one step closer to European glory.

The first leg in Paris had been an attacking masterpiece, with both teams trading blows in a relentless contest. But in Munich, Luis Enrique’s side approached the game differently. Rather than dominating possession and overwhelming opponents with flair, PSG focused on structure, resilience, and defensive discipline.

An early goal from Ousmane Dembélé gave PSG breathing room, but Bayern still looked dangerous throughout the match. With attacking stars such as Harry Kane and Luis Díaz leading the line, the German side continued to press forward in search of goals.

However, PSG’s back line stood firm.

Defenders Willian Pacho and Marquinhos produced outstanding performances in central defence, while young midfielder Warren Zaïre-Emery impressed in an unfamiliar right-back role.

Unlike their usual possession-heavy style, PSG were happy to sit deep, absorb pressure, and play direct football when needed. They recorded one of their lowest possession totals in recent Champions League history and frequently bypassed midfield altogether with long balls toward their front attackers.

It was a tactical adjustment rarely associated with this PSG side — and it worked perfectly.

Although Bayern managed numerous shots, PSG limited them mostly to low-quality opportunities. Kane eventually scored late in stoppage time, but the damage had already been done.

The performance demonstrated that Luis Enrique’s team are no longer simply an exciting attacking force. They now possess the defensive toughness and tactical flexibility needed to survive difficult European nights.

That balance could prove decisive in the final against Arsenal. PSG’s attacking stars — including Dembélé, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Désiré Doué — remain among the most dangerous in Europe, but against Bayern they showed another side of themselves: hardworking, disciplined, and capable of winning ugly.

If they can combine both qualities in the final, PSG may once again lift Europe’s biggest trophy. (reuters.com)
